Clubmakers H A Gaudin Jersey Born on Jersey in 1886, Herbert Arthur Gaudin was one of five golfing brothers. Unlike his brothers, and the Vardons of a decade earlier, he was able to make his living on his home island, being professional at Royal Jersey from 1904-1926. He played a memorable challenge match there in 1925 against Archie Compston billed as the 'biggest and smallest players in professional golf'. Five down at the 15th in the first of two rounds, the diminutive Gaudin ultimately won 2 and 1. In 1926, though, he did move to England, to become the pro at Wanstead Park Golf Club in Essex. He retired from there in 1934 on grounds of ill-health. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
