Fit o' the Toon: People - Fisher girls
Source: Arbroath Herald Review of 1992: Margaret King art
This picture of young Arbroath girls shows the 'short goon', one of the types of blouse traditionally worn by fisher women.
The blouse was tailored so that it was fitted at the waist and often had fancy pintucks at the front. Unlike the other common style of blouse, the sprigget blouse, this type fastened at the front with numerous buttons, often made from mother of pearl.
For warmth it would be lined with cotton ticking.
