TAMH: People
The region around the Tay has a rich maritime history, and local people who influenced history on a grand scale: Admiral Duncan, commemorated this year in the bicentennial of the Battle of Camperdown; Richard Clark from Montrose, who captured Riga for the Swedes in 1612; Admiral Greig who commanded Catherine the Great’s Baltic fleet and is buried, a Russian naval hero, in Tallinn cathedral. The lives of other working people, too, have shaped the area: ships’ carpenters, fishers, lifeboatmen, whalers and merchants.
