THE HARBOUR REVENUE

We printed here last week an approximate estimate of the revenue at the harbour of Arbroath for the financial year ended the 14th curt. The account for the year has now been closed, and the revenue received is as follows, with the increase or decrease on the several items as compared with last year:-

There was thus a net decrease on the year of £616 11s 8d. It will be observed from the above that much the larger portion of the decrease is on flax and hemp the importation of which was not much more than half that of last year. On all the items, however, there s a decrease, excepting the 50 and 25 per cent. and careening dues. The increase on the former item arises through the rates (having been advanced to the maximum - 50 per cent. since January last). According to our practice, we append a statement of the principal articles imported and exported during the year, as follows:-

Regarding the tonnage of shipping frequenting the port during the year, 28 foreign vessels arrived with a tonnage of 7275, showing a decrease in numbers of 38, and in tonnage 3944. the number of British vessels from foreign was 11 with a tonnage of 5108 - decrease in number, 9125 tonnage, 2104. Coasters with general cargoes, 36, tonnage 0247 - an increase in tonnage of 595, but a decrease in number of 6. Vessels with coal and lime, 162 ; tonnage, 17,488 - decrease in numbers, 19 ; tonnage 1095. the total number of ships arrived was 287, with a tonnage of 36,118, being a decrease of 66 vessels and 6548 tonnage.
